Sharing without sharing: Analytics on sensitive data while maintaining authenticity, traceability, and privacy

Effective data sharing is paramount to maximize the benefit of the joint information. Although there has been a push toward data standards and interoperability, data are still being siloed due to privacy concerns. The shape and nature of sensitive data can vary whether it be from defense, automotive, manufacturing, advertising, telecommunications, or any number of other sectors, but the problems remain the same.

How can organizations collaborate so that their data can be combined and reshaped into actionable information while minimizing their risk profile? How can one be assured where the data comes from? We explore recent advances in privacy-enhancing technologies that address some of the most pressing challenges when it comes to sharing data.

2:15pm - 2:30pmBreak
2:30pm - 3:30pmTechnology Spotlight:

Digital Engineering Pathways to Develop Digital Twins

Digital Twins (DTs) require synchronization between the physical and digital entities at a specified frequency and fidelity. To achieve this at the system-of-system level, architectures capable of linking sensor data with models are needed. Although this need is generally understood, the hardware/software/network/computing integrations required to succeed in digitally representing the physical asset and to enable decision making, control or visualization of physical process is hindered by the lack of generalized ways to deal with data issues such as archiving, querying, labeling, and using e.g., in both AI and physics-based modeling.

This talk will show examples of how data collected from a number of physical processes was used in a digital engineering framework to create the foundation for the development and deployment of digital twins. Current challenges and future opportunities will be also discussed.

Presenter: Antonios Kontsos, Director of the Digitial Engineering Hub (DEHub), Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Rowan University
